A YOUNG girl from Okehampton was air-lifted to hospital last weekend, after an accident near the A30. Samantha Preene, aged 16, and Alison Maxwell, 20, were returning from their part-time jobs in Whiddon Down on Sunday when they were involved in an accident on the bridge that crosses the A30 dual carriageway. A mountain rescue team from Wales who had been training on Dartmoor were the first on the scene and administered first aid. Ambulance, police and fire crews all were involved and a call was made to the air ambulance from the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. HeliMed 183 arrived at the scene and airlifted Samantha to the hospital. Thankfully, all people involved in the accident, which took place on Sunday afternoon, were unharmed, even Samantha. Debra Preene, Samantha?s mother, said: ?The emergency services were second to none, they were absolutely excellent. ?If you ever see any of those collection tins put some money in because they do a phenomenal job. ?All the emergency services worked together like clockwork. ?The medics said they needed four strong firemen to lift the stretcher and straight away they were there.?
