AIR Cadets from Tavistock and Okehampton Squadrons were joined for a fun packed weekend at Roadford Lake. The cadets were able to progress in the Passport or Discovery levels of the Canoe England Paddlepower Awards. All were given the experience of single and double kayaks and canoes.

Former cadet and now a RAF airman David Johnson brought along specialist boats, ranging from a racing kayak to an extreme white water canoe for the cadets to experience.

Wing staff officer Sqn Ldr Phil Newcombe said: 'Thanks to the support of the Tavistock OEF coaches and the wings coaches all the training was to an exceptional standard. Roadford Lakes trust was also very accommodating in making this event a success.'

The local squadrons give many opportunities to young people from 13 years of age, such as RAF history, aviation studies and Duke of Edinburgh Award and adventure training activities. Anyone interested can seek more information from http://www.2312squadron.co.uk">www.2312squadron.co.uk
