YOUNGSTERS from Okehampton Air Cadets are flying high after celebrating 62 years since the formation of their squadron. 2443 Okehampton Squadron Air Cadets, of Plymouth and Cornwall Wing Air Cadets, are currently looking to recruit new members between the ages of 13 and 17. This year the cadets will be involved in a range of different activities including the Ten Tors, Okehampton Carnival and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. Members will also be taking gliding scholarships at RMB Chivenor and flying at RAF St Mawgan. To help raise funds, for their Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition and for adventure training equipment, the cadets spent the day at Somerfield in Okehampton to help shoppers with their packing for small donations. Two of the cadets, FS Nick Browne and Cpl Stacey Pavely, are all set to tackle their gold Duke of Edinburgh expedition this July in the Picos mountains of Spain. Two further cadets, Cpl Lynsie Endacott and Cpl Gemma Nicholson, will be spreading their wings and travelling to Slovakia this summer where they will take part in a project to convert classrooms into small bedsits for orphans. Anyone, aged between 13 and 17, interested in joining the Air Cadets or wanting more information please telephone 01837 55044 or by e-mail at [email protected]">[email protected].
