A WEST Devon man will fulfil his ambition to run his first marathon this weekend, when he travels to Italy to take part in the Rome Marathon. David Hutchins will join 12,000 other runners and hopes to finish the 26mile plus course in a little over three hours. The 20-year-old medical student and former head boy of Kelly College is currently a 2nd year medical student studying at Brighton University. He has been training hard for the event with his fellow med school friend Andy Skinnner in Sussex who will also travel to Rome to take part in the event. David has also been running through the lanes back home in West Devon training with his 17 year old brother Paul. ?I?ve wanted to attempt a marathon run for years, but was unable to get registered with the London Marathon, so I thought the run in Rome would be a great adventure,? said David. ?I?m so excited to be going to Italy. It?s a wonderful opportunity for me and also to represent my favourite charity, Muscular Dystrophy.? Part of David?s medical course has included working with patients who have Muscular Dystrophy. ?I was incredibly moved by the courage and determination of the young patients I have met, and wanted to raise funds to help them. I also hoped that their own determination would inspire me to finish the gruelling run.? Anyone wishing to support David?s efforts and the Muscular Dystrophy charity can donate money through the Tavistock Times series of newspapers at 14 Brook Street, Tavistock. Cheques made payable to David Hutchins or contact him, his telephone number is 07890717012.
