AN appeal for toys and equipment for children and babies has this week been issued by a West Devon group which sends aid to countries in Africa.

Operation Sunshine sends large containers of all different types of donations to Africa three times a year. What is sent depends largely on the requests from the countries concerned, but this winter, toys for babies and toddlers are in great demand by an orphanage in Zambia.

Barbara Baycock, the Sticklepath area representative for Operation Sunshine, is appealing to parents to dig out items that they and their children no longer need or use.

Suggested items are baby walkers, push along trollies or trucks, baby gyms, rattles ? any toys which may be stimulating to babies who at present lie inactive and unstimulated in orphanages with few facilities and little equipment.

The only items which are not suitable for sending to Zambia are those which are battery operated.

Anyone who can help should call Barbara on 01837 840617.
