OKEHAMPTON Children?s Centre has been working closely within the community this week to help enrich the education of children. Maggi Calvert, Okehampton Children?s Centre worker, has been leading sessions at both the Fairplace Church and the Oranges and Lemons parent and toddler groups. The sessions are designed to enhance the learning of toddlers through play. The Fairplace group made calendars for the new year with glitter and glue while the children at Oranges and Lemons had fun with finger paints. The Fairplace parent and toddler group meets on Tuesdays at Fairplace Church and Oranges and Lemons meet on Friday at the Church Hall on Market Street. They are both keen for new families to join them and to become involved in the activities they offer. Oranges and Lemons will be holding a Christmas fair on Saturday December 15 from 9am until noon. There will be a raffle that includes more than £100 worth of goods donated by Waitrose as well as vouchers for Rant and Rage children?s store. Facilities for small children in Okehampton are strengthening all the time and Friday December 7 saw the first of a series of activity sessions at the Museum of Dartmoor Life that are taking place with the support of Okehampton Children?s Centre. The children learned all about the workings of tractors and put their new found knowledge to the test by playing on a tractor that is exhibited at the museum. The next session, planned for January 18, will be held at the museum from 1pm until 2.30pm. Sessions are open to children aged 3 to 5, accompanied by their parents. The children?s centre can be contacted on 01837 658621 for further information on the services they offer in Okehampton.
