A CORNWALL councillor has expressed frustration at the delay in two projects for yellow lines in Callington.

The town's Mebyon Kernow councillor Andrew Long has been advised that yellow lining for Tavistock Road will now not take place until June and the final consultation for Trasdeves Orchards looks like being delayed until July.

He said the two areas had been experiencing difficulties for a number of months. The number of vehicles using Tavistock Road had increased dramatically since the opening of the Tesco supermarket last August and this had led to periods of traffic congestion due to the number of parked vehicles.

'I do appreciate that the highways department has been under a lot of pressure from the reduction in the budget, but these two projects are relatively simple, and could have been done more effectively if they had been done at the same time, which would have saved a lot of unnecessary expenditure.

'It is vital that the Tavistock Road work is done urgently, given the danger for people in Tors View Close, and I will also be asking the highways department whether temporary cones could be used to protect the residents of Trasdeves before their work is finally done. I have also asked the police for advice to be given to the residents regarding blocking of garages and car parking bays in the Trasdeves Road area.'

It is hoped that minor changes to the lining in Liskeard Road and the entrance to Aysshton Gardens in the town will also be undertaken. Only a small area higher up Tavistock Road will have on-street parking following the addition of yellow lines.
