A WEST Devon village will appear on television later in the year, disguised as an Irish border community.

Princetown was awash with bright lights and echoing to shouts of 'action' as Tiger Aspect Productions filmed a new comedy series called 'The Fitz' for BBC2.

The team spent three days in the village and the surrounding area which apparently resembles Ireland's Mourne Mountains.

The action is set among a family who are all named after the Kennedys and live on a house straddling the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland.

None of the actors are stars — yet, according to producer Claudia Lloyd, some have appeared in The Commitments and Pulp Fiction, and one pair 'D'unbelievables' are quite famous over the water where they are known as the Morecombe and Wise of Ireland, she said.

The filming will move onto Totnes, Torquay and a London studio and will be screened some time later this year.
