Whitchurch v Mendip Acorns

THE Acorns got off to a flying start thanks to Hunt (21) and Lewis (45) before being pegged back by Bright (2-40) and Townsend (2-23). Acorns were 103 for 5 after half their allocation of 40 overs.

Hall made further inroads into the tourists batting with 3 for 46.

However, a counter-attack from Biswas (40) and Lunn (36 not out), enabled the Acorns to post a commendable total of 197 for 8.

Whitchurch made slow progress in reply, restricted by Davies (1-22) off 10 overs. A stand of 74 between Hall (30) and Mansfield helped Whitchurch get their innings going again.

Mansfield continued to dominate the Acorns bowling and in partnership with Bright took Whitchurch to the brink of victory before he was bowled for 83.

It was left to Dave Bright (45no), playing his last game for the club before moving away, to score the winning runs in the last over. Whitchurch were the victors by 6 wickets.

Whitchurch v Clevedon

MIKE Brown left Whitchurch with a bewildered expression on his face - he could not believe that he had top scored with 7 and been on the winning side.

Batting first, visitors Clevedon struggled from the start. With Dean Elliott and Tom Ingram in fine form the visitors slumped to 3 for 3 and never got going. Only Kennedy and Fielder managed double figures.

With only a total of 44 to defend, Clevedon brought on their league bowlers Kennedy and Fielder. Kennedy had an immediate impact and Whitchurch were struggling at 5 for 3 and then 24 for 6.

The winning margin looked a long way away. But with Mike Brown's top score and a few extras the home side limped home.
