A TAVISTOCK Trefoil Guild member was recently presented with the rare Dark Horse Venture Award at a ceremony marking Thinking Day.

Thelma Newell (pictured right) received the award from past chairman of Tavistock Trefoil Guild Sheila Bromidge at the ceremony in Tavistock Guide Hall.

Trefoil Guild is a group of former guides, guiders, commissioners and ex-scouters, who want to put something back into the movement. Thelma was awarded the accolade for carrying out a number of meaningful adventures. The Dark Horse Venture is similar to the Duke of Edinburgh Award, but for the over 50s.

The celebration also provided Tavistock Trefoil Guild members with the first viewing of the new guild tablecloth contributed to by Thelma and Sheila. The idea is being copied by members of the Frazer Delta Trefoil in Vancouver, Canada, which is twinned with the Tavistock Guild.
