A BUILDING firm based in Okehampton has been recognised for its quality work on a project in the town centre.

Jeffery and Pengelly Building Contractors has been granted a certificate of quality assurance from the Federation of Master Builders for their work on the new premises for A L Martin and Son Butchers, opposite Waitrose. It is the first time the firm has received such a certificate.

The work required a complete refurbishment of the pre-existing building, which was formerly a garage. Moving from their old premises on Fore Street to the new build was a big investment for the family-run butcher, costing between £50,000 and £100,000. The firm has traded in town for almost 70 years.

Lee Pengelly from the building firm said: 'It is very nice to get the award. Things are difficult for everyone out there at the moment, so to receive some positive news like this is really brilliant. Being recognised for our work is rewarding.'

The firm specialises in barn conversions, new builds, extension, general building and maintenance, joinery and decorating.
