AT the AGM held on October 19 at the Anchorage Centre a proposal about the future of Tavistock Access Group was debated and a decision taken to disband the group due to the retirement of several committee members.
It is proposed by Devon County Council to create the Devon Disability Network with elected representatives, which will take over some of the work we have undertaken over the past 20 years. The contact will be with TASS (Tavistock Area Support Services) at the Anchorage Centre.
We have achieved many projects which have improved the local environment for those with disabilities as well as parents with prams and pushchairs.
I am very grateful to everyone who has been a member of the group over the years, especially those who have been committee members – too many to mention – and to Ottery Press for helping to produce the Access Guide.
We will continue to work with Highways and Councillor Debo Sellis to improve the crossing from Watts Road to the hospital. It needs to be made safer and less stressful for pedestrians by providing improved signage and other ways to slow down the traffic in this area.
