NEW access for the disabled to Bere Alston Post Office was officially opened by a local resident who will benefit from the improvements. Lesley Friend, who uses a wheelchair, performed the opening ceremony on Monday as the Post Office opened for business for the first time with the completely revamped access. A special cake was baked for the occasion by one of the post ladies, Sheila Drew. The old door to the premises has been removed and access is now through a new entrance where the window used to be. Postmistress Marion Gray said the work had been carried out to meet new disability regulations. The work had only been completed at around 11pm on Sunday. ?It?s going to be an asset and will make people?s lives easier,? Marion said.
