A DEDICATED volunteer has ended her six month placement with children's cancer charity CLIC Sargent in style, after helping to raise almost £4,000 for the cause by taking part in a brave abseil.

Dressed as Mrs Claus, Sarah Bowden from Halwill Junction near Okehampton joined other participants to tackle the 80 ft drop at Exeter University on Saturday December 13.

Sarah said: 'The last six months has been a fantastic experience. It has given me the opportunity to work with some great people and try my hand at new tasks.

'I have loved every minute of it and I am hoping to still be able to continue helping out in the future.'

The 28 year-old said that completing the abseil was one of the most memorable experiences during her time at CLIC Sargent.

'The abseil was such good fun.

'Not only was it a great personal challenge to help raise money for a truly worthy cause, but the perfect way to finish my secondment,' said Sarah.

The full time employee at Waitrose in Okehampton has been on secondment from the store since last June, working through The Golden Jubilee Trust as a volunteer fundraising co-ordinator.

During her time with the charity she had also been involved with promoting Yummy Mummy week in and around Devon and Cornwall, where she helped organise a women's only all night pyjama party at the Odeon cinema in Exeter.

CLIC Sargent provides clinical, practical and emotional support for the families of children and young people with cancer, offering them care and support every step of the way.
