Fred Hewings Cup Rd 3 Staverton & Landscove Res 5 Chagford Res 2 FOR the best part of this match, Chagford struggled against their Division Seven opponents and only showed their own ability in brief spells. It was in the first of these that the visitors took the lead. Following a well worked move, the ball bounced around a crowded penalty box and Tolen back heeled his goal past a surprised ?keeper. Staverton came back with an equaliser and soon after took the lead. Failure to keep pace with faster reacting forwards was Chagfords? main undoing. The first half was to close nicely for Chagford as they fought back and were only just short of finishing, with chances creeping high or wide. The second half opened with a stunning blow for Chagford as Colridge, whose thigh injury caused him to be swapped with Mortimore in goal, found his first task was to pick the ball out of his net. Staverton sensed a comfortable victory as Chagford had to open up and press forward, only stiff defending kept them at bay but they still took a great fourth goal for a three goal lead. Chagford managed to up their game and enjoyed a good twenty minute period which led to their scoring a second. Slatcher sent in a wicked shot that the home ?keeper fumbled and Potter was on hand to poke the ball home from all of six inches. Although they pressed again, Chagford legs were tiring and Staverton were to take a breakaway fifth goal, finishing off the Moormen. Staverton ended up deserving winners with form that belies their divisional status. This week, Chagford entertain table leaders Teign Village and know they need to be more consistent in their search for more League points.
