BUCKLAND Abbey is hosting an Elizabethan Week during October 20 to 24 with daily events portraying slices of life from more than 400 years ago. On the weekend of October 20 to 21 the former home of Sir Francis Drake willl ring to the music of the Renaissance Historical Dance Society. Monday, October 22, sees Mock Hobby Horse performing in the Abbey?s Great Hall, with an opportunity to learn about Tudor music and play on small percussion instruments. At noon and again at 2pm children will be able to try some simple dances. Sir Francis and Lady Drake will also be in residence in their chamber. On Tuesday, October 23 the Buckland Abbey Costume Group will take centre stage in the Great Hall to illustrate the history of Elizabethan costume and demonstrate spinning. ?Sallets and Sucets?, an exploration of Tudor food, forms the main dish of the day on Wednesday, October 24, with a costumed cook demonstrating the history of food of the period in the Tudor kitchen. Normal National Trust entrance charges apply for the event, which runs from noon to 4pm each day.
