OKEHAMPTON U3A welcomed Cllr Christine Marsh, formerly mayor of Okehampton, who gave a lively and interesting talk to the group?s annual meeting in May.

Okehampton U3A (University of the Third Age), set up almost three years ago, continues to provide learning opportunities and a variety of interesting activities for the over-fifties. The group meets regularly at the Ockment Centre at 2.30pm on the last Wednesday of every month, with a guest speaker, discussion and refreshments.

In addition, groups run by members enjoy outings for photography and field studies, take part in opera studies, and study psychology and philosophy. Members can set up together any new groups for which they have an interest.

The University of the Third Age is an international organisation and members in Okehampton would like to see the group expand and flourish as it does in many towns and areas of the UK.

The next Okehampton U3A general meeting is at the end of the month, when a video and discussion will explain about the U3A and the benefits of joining. In July, the group will have a talk by a representative of Devon Air Ambulance.

New members are welcome to come along to the general meeting on Wednesday, June 30 at the Ockment Centre.
