CHRISTMAS will be coming early to residents of Kelly Bray as a new lifesaving device has been bought for the village and is due to be installed in the New Year.
Callington Town Council has purchased a community defibrillator for the village using money left over from the purchase of Callington's defibrillator last year and other donations.
The electrical device gives a shock to the heart to get the organ pumping again when someone goes into cardiac arrest.
The Kelly Bray defibrillator is due to be positioned on an exterior wall of the Swingletree pub in the village, which everyone will be able to access.
Callington town clerk Helen Dowdall said: 'We had money left over after buying Callington's defibrillator so we were keen to buy one for Kelly Bray.
'We, as a town council, are always conscious that we are for Callington and Kelly Bray inclusively.
'We have now paid for the device and it is currently on its way. In the New Year we will make arrangements with the electrician and proprietor of the Swingletree to get it installed.'
Callington's defibril-lator was installed just after Christmas last year and is positioned on the wall of the public toilets in New Road.
The new defibrillator will have simple instructions and can be used by anyone in an emergency. People will be asked to call ambulance control to get the access code.
Councillor Mark Smith, also a member of Callington Fire Brigade, is trained to give lessons in how to use the equipment. Once the defibrillator is installed the council will host a community training session so members of the public can learn how to use the device and help save someone's life if the situation arose.
Gerald Pridham, president of the Kelly Bray Residents' Association, which gave a donation to the defibrillator fund, said: 'It is excellent. It will be a really good thing for the village of Kelly Bray.'
