Exeter Civil Services Seconds v Chagford Seconds
CHAGFORD Second Eleven batting first lost Willie Potts quickly, but Young Billy Searle (19) and veteran John Sugden with 30 restored the position and although Skipper departed for just 1 useful contribution from father and son David Penberthy 26 and Paul 15 continued the revival. Richards Sampson batting low at number eight added top score of 32 and with last man Paul Wakefield on 13 not out and extras 31 Chagford were able to reach 175 all out.
The wickets for Civil were shared between Skidmore 2 for 36, B Rowe 3 for 31 R Caryl 2 for 32, S Rose 2 for 33 and former Chagford Skipper 1 for 35.
When Civil batted it was veteran Ken Moss who did the early damage with the first three wickets but Caryl stood firm and along with S Rowe began to make a sound base.
With their dismissal it was left to J Rose batting at eight to score 52 before being last man outbeing well caught by Searle off Steve Sizmuir to leave Civil all out 152.
The main wicket takers were Ken Moss three for 34, 14 year old Billy Searle in a pleasing performance three for 19 and Steve Sizmuir two for 44.
This gave Chagford Seconds their third consecutive win in their first season in the Devon League and Skipper Snell expressed his delight in the team spirit in the squad.
Chagford 20 points, Civil Services 8 points.
