A NEW diploma in food is being offered by the Duchy College at Stoke Climsland from next September.
As the South West becomes increasingly known for its quality of local food, the college is keen to offer students the chance to join this growing sector at a wider range of levels.
The level 3 diploma in food manufacture will be offered, which, on completion, is equivalent to three A levels. This City and Guilds course is very vocational, with students spending a good proportion of their learning in the college's food innovation centre.
Students can progress to the foundation degree or get a job in the food sector after completing the diploma.
John Latham, principal of Cornwall College, of which Duchy College is part, said: 'Contrary to popular belief food technology is not all about cookery lessons or standing on a production line.
'Duchy is providing opportunities to find out about all aspects of food production and gain the skills and qualifications that will enable students to join a highly innovative and varied industry that has been enjoying a popular renaissance in recent times.'
