THE general manager at Roadford Lake's 'Lakeside' restaurant and function suite has pulled out all the stops to bring a taste of Tunisia to the venue. Mohamed Kouki was born in Tunisia but has spent the last 27 years in England and joined South West Lakes Trust in August 2007. Fluent in five languages, he secured a Tunisian National Tourist Office travel trade event promoting holidays in his home country. He said: 'This kind of event is normally held in major cities like London, Manchester or Dublin. However, the Tunisian delegation were bowled over by the beauty of Roadford and the great facilities that we have on offer. This is a first for this area; I'm really proud.' Tunisia has long been a favourite destination of British holidaymakers. With one coast pointing to Italy and the other plunging into the Sahara, Tunisia is an amazing connection between Europe and Africa and between east and west. It was influenced early on by some of the greatest civilisations and was the centre of the Carthaginian empire. It has also been a major Roman province, the remains of which can be seen in impressive ruins and sumptuous mosaics. As an unexpected bonus, the delegation agreed to extend their stay and to support a Tunisia-themed day at Lakeside on Saturday May 10. There will be a day-long exhibition on Tunisia and its holiday industry at Lakeside to which the public is invited from 10.30am to 4pm. In the evening, Mohamed Kouki is running a Tunisian Night at Lakeside, with traditional cuisine and entertainment. Representatives from the National Tourist Office and Tunisair will be on hand and have donated a prize of a luxury holiday for two, with golf option, including flights plus a host of other prizes, to be drawn on the evening.
