TAVISTOCK Young Farmers held a charity speed shear recently, raising an incredible £8,000 for Children's Hospice Southwest and Tavistock Stroke Club. The speed shear took place at Lake Farm, Dousland, on Bank Holiday Sunday. Tavistock YFC expressed thanks to everyone who attended and also to the support they received from the local farming community. The turnout surpassed all expectations, as did the amount raised. Linda Landick, one of the organisers, said: 'In the end it was worth all the stress. It is a fantastic amount and will be good incentive to the younger members of the community to carry on raising money for good causes.' The secretary of Tavistock Young Farmers, Emma Cole, also extended her gratitude to all who helped organise the event and who helped on the day saying: they were all 'brilliant' . The cheques will be presented to the two charities on October 9 at Gulworthy Village Hall at 8pm.
