A CHARITY ?Hospital Week? is to be run in the Okehampton area later this month ? the first time such a venture has ever been organised.
The fundraising event is being organised by the Friends of Okehampton Community Hospital and will run from Monday June 28 until a street flag day on Saturday July 3.
Friends members are being asked to conduct door-to-door collections during the week, culminating with the flag day.
Money collected during the major fundraising drive will be put into a general fund for more equipment at the hospital.
John Marvin, chairman of the friends, said: ?This is a major effort for our small committee, but their dedication is amazing and I am thrilled so many are to take part.
?If others wish to help they would be more than welcome, either as part of the door-to-door exercise, or the street collection.?
Mr Marvin said the friends recently bought some X-ray viewing screens and more equipment for the hospital?s physiotherapy department, which were a great help to staff and patients.
But he said raising money for the hospital was always an ongoing battle.
?These items do not come cheaply and we do need to keep our income flowing in.?
Mr Marvin said residents in the Okehampton area could also help by joining up as a member of the friends, which cost just £10 a year.
Anyone who would like to help the Friends? Hospital Week in any way should contact John Marvin on 01837 659708.
