MUSICIANS, family and friends travelled from as far as Australia to celebrate the marriage of West Devon's internationally-acclaimed folk artist Seth Lakeman to locally-born Hannah Edwards.

The wedding took place at Withiel, near Wadebridge in Cornwall, where Hannah's father has been a GP for many years.

Hannah, 32, was born in Tavistock and the couple now live only a few hundred yards from the town's old maternity hospital. She works as a nurse in a neurological ward at Derriford Hospital.

Seth, 35, was brought up in Buckland Monachorum and has continued living in West Devon, despite his chart-topping CDs and worldwide touring.

Seth's dad Geoff Lakeman said: 'The wedding was like a mini music festival.

'Even the wedding invitations were printed like music event  backstage passes and marked AAA — Access All Areas.

'Hannah's family arranged a superb marquee in meadows by the River Camel which accommodated 200 guests for a sit-down meal and there was a party afterwards that went on through the Sunday as well.'

Seth's sister-in-law, award-winning Irish singer Cara Dillon, sang as the couple signed the register in Withiel's St Clement's  church.

Steve Potter, from Mary Tavy, who performs with Geoff in his folk and jazz trios, played the couple in and out of church with traditional tunes on the fiddle.

Seth's long-time musical mates, the Westcountry's top party band, Mad Dog Mcrea, played for the evening party.

Geoff said: 'We didn't have to book any other musicians for the entertainment, there were so many there.'

Seth's brothers, Sean and Sam, who are also musicians and producers, also performed, along with Steve Knightley from Show of Hands, percussionist Cormac Byrne and Scottish fiddler Patsy Reid, who only a few days later played on one of the music barges on the Thames for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee river parade.

During the church service Hannah's 90 year-old grandfather, 'Granfer Foster', a Cornish bard, read a blessing in Cornish, and Seth's grandad , the Rev Ronald Gibbins, also 90 and a retired Methodist minister, delivered an address.

The couple are on a camper van honeymoon in Italy, with their springer spaniel Bernie.

Before the wedding Seth had just completed both an Australian and European tour, after releasing his latest CD, 'Tales from the Barrel House', recorded at Morwellham Quay. It has received five-star reviews in the music and national press.

Immediately after returning from honeymoon Seth begins a round of  18 summer music festivals in Europe and the UK. One of these is at the Eden Project.

He also plays four nights next month at Plymouth's 'Music of the Night' and in October undertakes another UK tour, culminating with a show at Plymouth's Theatre Royal.
