Bodmin Trophies Duchy 2
Mary Tavy 5
Delabole 1
MARY Tavy taught table-toppers Delabole a valuable footballing lesson with a superb display at the Coronation Field.
James Coole, back to his best after his long lay-off, opened the scoring with a cracking low finish after an excellent build up.
Tavy grew more and more confident as the game went on. Delabole had their chance to draw level when a through-ball left the striker with only the keeper to beat. But as he tucked the ball to one side the referee indicated a free kick on the edge of the area and the Tavy keeper escaped unpunished.
The resulting free kick was blasted over the bar and Tavy responded in the beat possible form with a headed goal from Simon Pocknell who rose above all others at the far post from a corner.
The start of the second half saw the league leaders try to drag themselves back into the game but their efforts were in vain as Mark Piper made it 3-0 with a shot across the face of the goal into the far corner.
Delabole managed a consolation goal as the referee chose to ignore the persistent waving of the linesman's flag who seemed to be in a perfect position to make the call. But straight from the kick-off Tavy emerged from their despair as Ben Stephens finished off a cross from James Philpotts.
All that was left was for Philpotts himself to make it 5-1 and the leaders were well and truly beaten on the day.
