YELVERTON Bowling Club ladies entertained a touring team from the Gloucester Women's Bowling Association. The weather was against playing bowls, so all ended up having a quiz afternoon with a cream tea.

Eight Yelverton ladies had travelled to Yealmpton the same afternoon but this game had to be cancelled.

On Tuesday a mixed friendly against Civil Service ended in a defeat for Yelverton. The ladies had their final league match against Ivybridge which ended in a win on both rinks for Yelverton.

Saturday was Finals Day and all matches were keenly fought. Results: Club champion, Roger Ley; runner up Henry Towl. Ladies' champion, Val Edwards; runner up Joan Price. Men's champion, Ron Hunter; runner up, Michael Brain. Govier Cup, four woods winner, Liz Broughton; runner up, Keith Edwards. Centre Sports 2 woods winner, Dennis Smith; runner up, Phyllis Hellier.

In the afternoon the pairs finals were played. Both matches had to play an extra end as they were level at the end of 21 ends.

In the Jean Terry Cup Kate Johnston and David Rugg beat Thelma Ley and Ron Hunter while in the Hamley Shield June Brain and Gwen Dean beat Val Edwards and Joss Jones.
