THE children at Okehampton Primary will all have been celebrating the start of the summer holidays — but another group of youngsters had another reason to celebrate as they won the school's Progress Awards.

The awards recognised the hard work and achievement of pupils who have improved the most over the school year.

Each year group saw the top three pupils receive a certificate, and the winners receiving a cup.

Hazel Fox, the school headteacher, said: 'We have had a really successful year academically, with our highest ever scores in SATs.

'These awards recognise the children who have worked particularly hard to improve and have seen that hard work pay off for them academically.'

The school will have a stand at the Okehampton Show on Thursday, August 8 to meet with members of the community and discuss how the school has been doing over the last year.
