THE sterling work undertaken in Tavistock's Plymouth Road Cemetery recently came in for high praise during a meeting in the town last week.
A landscaping scheme has been in process at the cemetery, with a new drystone wall being built towards the top of the site and two semi-mature trees being planted at the entrance to the 'green burial' section.
Cllr Harry Smith, during the recent meeting of the town council's properties committee, said the new wall was an 'absolutely excellent piece of work' and praised the council's works department for the its craftsmanship.
Cllr Debo Sellis, chairman of the committee, said: 'It's definitely worth going up there to take a look, and see how tidy it is all looking up there now.'
Other work at the cemetery includes a programme of renovation at the Cemetery Lodge, which is now vacant.
The property has been completely re-wired and re-decorated, the loft insulation has been upgraded and a new boiler system installed.
Replacement carpets have also been fitted throughout — the property should then be available for rent.
