TAVISTOCK Parish Church is marking Holy Week next week with a number of unusual activities. On Palm Sunday its 9.45 am service will begin with a procession from the parish centre in Plymouth Road to the church, through Bedford Square, led by children and a donkey, commemorating Jesus' entry into Jerusalem. At the other end of the week, on Easter Day, members of the parish church will join with friends from St Andrew's, Whitchurch and Tavistock Methodist Church to celebrate communion at dawn — 6 am — on the Pimple. Some will arrive at 5 am to await the sunrise with readings from scripture. For everyone who lets one of the churches know in advance, there will be a breakfast afterwards in the Methodist lower church hall. Throughout the week, the addresses at the parish church will be given by a renowned visiting speaker, The Rev Canon Mark Rylands. Details of the services, together with those at other churches, can be found in the Tavistock Area Christians Together (TACT) advertisement in the Times. The priest-in-charge of Tavistock, The Rev Michael Brierley, said: 'Mark Rylands is a canon of Exeter Cathedral, and responsible for mission in the Church of England in Devon. He's a wonderful guy, and can't be recommended highly enough. It's going to be a memorable week.' All are warmly welcome at any of the services.
