MEMBERS of the Okehampton branch of the Liberal Democrats held their annual meeting at the Ockment Centre.
Peter Webb, branch chairman, told members it had been 'a mixed year' with success in fundraising but disappointment in two local by-elections.
The branch raised £1,500 through events such as whist drives and coffee mornings. He thanked Helen and Ernie Cann for their help with the whist drives, Helen for her work as secretary, Shirley Webb, and all the ladies involved in the coffee mornings.
Mr Webb congratulated Jackie Reynolds on her efforts, despite her defeat in the town council elections in the East and West side, praising her and her team for increasing the Liberal Democrat vote in the wards.
Membership was reported as being down from 57 to 51 due to the death of some members.
All branch officers were re-elected with the addition of Mr and Mrs R Elphick to the committee.
Tony Leech was elected to represent Okehampton branch on the constituency executive committee, along with Helen Cann who was re-elected.
West Devon Borough Cllr John Young gave a report on planning, while Sally Morgan, the party's prospective parliamentary candidate for Central Devon, praised members and Jackie Webb for all their hard work in the Okehampton Town Council elections.
She said when it came to affordable homes, councils have to carry out the wishes of the Government and in some cases they have no say in the matter.
When it came to income tax the Liberal Democratss wanted the rich to be taxed more so that low-paid workers could be exempt.
