OKEHAMPTON's first game of the season was away to the Devon champions. Ivybridge were good enough to lend Okehampton a player as they had travelled with 14.
Okehampton's first half performance was a surprise with the forwards holding their own in the scrum and out-rucking the Ivybridge pack, who gave away penalties under pressure.
Sam Billingham and Luke Crocker, both playing their first game for the club in the second row, settled in well with a good game. Props Stuart Bennie and Scott Simpson worked hard and tackled well, as did the back row of Tom McGratton, Jake Chisholm and Richard Friend who was quick up on the Ivybridge halfbacks.
The Okehampton backs of Will Heard, Tom Browne, David Binns, Michael Aylen and Wayne Atherton were all quickly up on their opposite numbers forcing Ivybridge to kick away possession.
Okehampton gave away two soft tries in the first half. It was the last ten minutes of the game when Okehampton ran out of steam that Ivybridge ran in some tries, but a lot was learned from the game.
