DESPITE the damp, grey skies and a slow start (it looked as if the weather had made folk decide to spend extra time in bed!) Saturday's craft fair, held in the Charter Hall, went off remarkably well.
There were some new stalls amongst the regulars and new products all round. Items on display varied from cards supporting a charity which dates back to the Crusades (The Order of St Lazurus) to dinosaur replicas made from powered limestone.
There were paintings which made summer seem nearer, beautiful blue glazed pottery, decorative glass in all its forms — blown, fused, leaded and painted; woodturning, jewellery and the most marvellous pictures made in cross-stitch.
There were soaps accompanied by fresh herbs and the smell of wheat bags, heated to ease that stiff neck, accompanied by lavender products and a myraid of similar gift items.
Okehampton Lions did their usual job of providing refreshments, and their chairs were well occupied. The two tables of books in aid of Devon Air Ambulance did a brisk trade, providing a good start for the year.
Overall, a brilliant day. This was the first of five craft fairs for the year, the next being on Saturday, May 15. Any further details can be obtained from 01363-82295 (evenings). Thank you to all those who came and supported us.
