DEVON County Council's Active Life, Active Mind programme, aimed at supporting health and wellbeing is back stronger than ever this autumn, with three libraries in the Okehampton area involved.
There are drawing workshops and creative writing groups, and, for those getting back into work, opportunities to improve IT skills, while the Citizens Advice Bureau is on hand to offer help.
People can also take advantage of health checks by local GP practice staff and gain advice on how to stop smoking. Dementia awareness and support will also be provided by the Alzheimer's Society.
At Okehampton Library on Wednesday, October 2 there will be a free workshop helping people to trace their family history online.
On Monday, October 7 there will be a free drop-in session aimed at helping those who would like to download eBooks and audiobooks using the Devon Libraries Overdrive services. Customers are advised to bring along their devices, like eBook readers, smartphones and tablets, with the aim to have each visitor reading from them by the end of the session.
The following day on Tuesday, October 8, there will be a craft group, offering an informal afternoon to share craft ideas. Wednesday, October 16 is Wellbeing Wednesday, where people can find out about different forms of exercise and ways to keep fit. Tom Soby will lead a walk from the library on Thursday, October 24 through Okehampton, pointing out landmarks of historical interest.
Every Friday in October is Free Friday — a new service offering free extended computer and internet access, with extra support from trained library staff. People can also fill out a health and wellbeing quiz at any point during the month.
Chagford Library has a reading and writing together session on Tuesday, October 29 run by the Alzheimer's Society. On Thursday, October 31 the library will host creative writing tutor Lunar Hine, while West Devon Connect will visit on October 11 and 25.
Moretonhampstead Community Club on Court Street hosts a community morning on Saturday, October 19, offering residents a great chance to find out about groups, clubs and activities in the area.
