TEN lucky pupils from South Tawton Primary School took part in the Aviva Premiership Rugby Final on May 28, playing a demonstration match on the hallowed turf of Twickenham.
The team of year four pupils got to play at Twickenham, as well as have a pitch parade, following their success in a tag rugby tournament held at Sandy Park.
The team beat Inverteign Primary School in the final of the tournament to earn the chance to go to the Premiership final.
Nikki Hutchings, a teacher at the school and coach of the team, said: 'After an early start, the children still had boundless energy for their demonstration match and pitch parade.
'They thoroughly enjoyed the day and, despite returning late in the evening, managed to sing happily all the way home on the coach.
'The team were a pleasure to take and a credit to the school.'
The tournament was the culmination of the Tackling Numbers scheme, an interactive numeracy programme for young children developed and delivered by Premiership Rugby in association with MBNA.
All year four children from South Tawton Primary took part in ten sessions to help improve their numeracy skills through training with representatives from Exeter Chiefs. Exeter Chiefs mascot Big Chief visited the school to thank the children for their achievements and hard work.
