ONE hundred seven and eight year olds enjoyed a warm and sunny day playing tag rugby at Tavistock Rugby Club.

Teams from Whitchurch, St Peter’s, Milton Abbot, Lamerton, Horrabridge and St Andrew’s Primary Schools took part in the first ever year 3/4 Tag Rugby festival in the area organised by Okehampton Commnity Recreation Association.

Simon Fuller of Tavistock Rugby Club spoke to the children at the start about the family values of rugby and how respect, teamwork and sportsmanship were very important when playing the game. The children then had a fun warm up session before starting the tournament.

Each team played four games lasting seve

n minutes in the pool stage with Whitchurch heading pool one and St Andrew’s A, pool two. These teams met in the final with Whitchurch winning and receiving the gold medals.

Thanks go to Jess Veacock, Adam Williams and Will Slater who officiated the games and to Tavistock RFC for hosting the event.
