LYDFORD Primary School hosted an orienteering festival for year 5 children in the Okehampton Learning Community recently.

On a beautiful sunny afternoon eight schools came together to learn how to orienteer, learning first how to read a map, and then continued training by progressing by using the map to find markers which were located around the school.

It culminated in a very competitive final event in which children had to find 20 markers in the shortest possible time.

The overall winners of the trophy were North Tawton closely followed by Hatherleigh and Chagford. The standard of the competition results was by far the best ever achieved, making it the most successful event held.

The organisers would like to thank all those who transported children and helped on the day to make everything run so smoothly.
