STAFF, pupils, governors and parents at St Mellion Primary School are celebrating after it was praised by Ofsted inspectors as an outstanding school which gives its pupils a brilliant start in life. The report says a combination of strong and very effective leadership and the concerted efforts of everyone involved has seen the school go from strength to strength. It gives particular praise to the ?outstanding? personal development of pupils of all ages, very high standards of achievement and ?exemplary? behaviour of students. The inspectors said: ?This is an outstanding school which sets itself high standards. ?The popularity of the school, the very high regard in which it is held by parents and pupils, the excellent learning environment and the high standards, are all testimony to exceptional leadership and management. ?The school?s capacity to innovate and improve is excellent. ?Typically, a parent describes the school as ?a shining example? while another sums it up well, stating ?St Mellion staff have given my children a brilliant start in life?.? Headteacher Angela Palin said: ?St Mellion is a lovely school. We are delighted that Ofsted agree with what everyone involved with the school believes ? that this school really does meet it?s aim of providing the very best for all our pupils in order to prepare them for their future.? The inspectors identified just two areas of action for governors and staff to raise standards further ? to help pupils to improve their writing to the same standards as in other subjects and to work with the local authority to find ways in which a hall could be provided. Chairman of governors Vivienne Malsom said: ?We are delighted with our Ofsted report. The exceptional leadership of the headteacher, a real team effort and an excellent partnership between head, staff, governors and parents have resulted in the school?s remarkable progress, providing all of our pupils with the best possible start in life.?
