A RETURN trip from Bere Ferrers Station to Gunnislake on the Tamar Valley Line will be undertaken tomorrow (Friday) by West Devon and Torridge MP Geoffrey Cox and the Shadow Minister for Community Railways Stephen Hammond.

They will visit the Tamar Valley line for discussions with Richard Burningham, manager of the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership, and Julian Crow, First Great Western's general manager for the west of England.

Among other issues Mr Hammond is keen to learn how the proposed extension of the community railway line to Tavistock is viewed by those who operate it and whether they consider the plan to be viable.

Mr Cox said: 'I am very pleased that Stephen Hammond has agreed to visit the Tamar Valley Line with me.

'The railway line is a vital part of our rural transport infrastructure in West Devon and its successful future is essential to communities such as Bere Alston, Bere Ferrers and to the surrounding area.'

Mr Cox added that he thought it was important someone who, in due course, could well be taking vital decisions on the future of the line understood its significance and place in the life of communities in West Devon.
