SPLENDID sunshine brought out the crowds for the annual Gunnislake Festival Day which went with a bang last Saturday.

Hundreds of people turned out to enjoy the fine weather and activities, including art workshops, mediaeval cookery, pottery practice and inflatable jousting.

Gunnislake Football Club cooked up a storm with a tasty barbecue, accompanied by the strains of local band Squandered Youth who played through the lunch hour in their mellow folk style.

They were followed by singing star Richard Courtice whose diverse repertoire stretches from Pavarotti to Queen and even Ricky Martin.

Traditional and contemporary art hung side by side at the Buccaneer Inn?s open art exhibition while professional artists staged their own show in St Ann?s Church Hall, both drawing plenty of admirers.

More artwork was to be found in Commercial Street?s Orchard Studio where members of Gunnislake Cross Stitch Club celebrated their tenth birthday with an embroidery exhibition.

Visitors marvelled at the complex needlework, and many were amazed by the intricacy of the designs developed through 4,000 years of scintillating stitchery.

Various prizes were awarded throughout the day from the best scarecrow to the ?Florabundant? Challenge Cup and the festival was rounded off by a grand festival finale dance courtesy of Guesswork who played out the night in Gunnislake Public Hall.
