Carlsberg South Western League
Truro City 1
Tavistock 1
THE Lambs' campaign got off to a good start with this deserved point at Treyew Road but they had to sweat until the 88th minute before they drew level.
Defences dominated the first half but it was the Lambs who created the chances. Tony Cusack went close after one-touch football by Jeff Babb and John Gosling had set him up,
Gosling then got to a through-ball by Mark Wall, ahead of Truro's keeper Duncan Ayers, only to see it go past the wrong side of the post. Babb then turned and shot low to see the keeper save.
New signing Nathan Blamey, who was controlling the midfield, got in on the act at the start of the second half shooting just over then had another goalbound shot charged down before the home side created their first real scoring opportunity.
On the hour, Ben Goldring found himself in the area with only Andy Meeds to beat but blasted the ball wide when well placed — five minutes later he redeemed himself. Manager Chris Webb miscued his shot into the area and Goldring was in the correct position to stab the ball past Meeds for an undeserved opener.
Steve Daymond and Rob Hawkins came on for Mark Wall and Tony Cusack after 75 minutes and the Lambs continued to press for the equaliser.
Just as it looked as if it would be a narrow defeat, up popped Daymond with the leveller. He picked the ball up just inside the Truro half, surged forward to unleash a screamer from 30 yards and sent the ball over Ayers and under the crossbar to the delight of the Tavistock faithful and management.
After the game joint managers Chris Abbott and Craig Smith were delighted with the result. Abbott said: 'It was a goal worthy of winning the game let alone the equaliser but we are both delighted with our first point of the season.'
