A WEST?Devon couple were thrown a surprise party by family and friends in celebration of their diamond wedding anniversary.

Jack and Annie Monk, both in their 80s, celebrated their anniversary at a party held in the United Reform Church in Tavistock.

Many of their family and friends travelled from afar to celebrate with them, and the town crier made an appearance with wishes from the mayor of Tavistock. The couple also received a special card from the Queen and were given a mention on Judi Spiers' show on BBC?Radio Devon.

Jack and Annie were married in Hertfordshire. Jack was in the Navy and the couple moved several times as part of his work to as far away as Malta, but are now settled in Tavistock.

They have seven children and several grand and great grandchildren.
