DAVID Walter?s letter in praise of ?local tax? reads like the work of a PR spin doctor, not the work of an experienced, impartial journalist as recently reported in the Times.
Everyone who pays council tax can agree that it is an unfair tax. Like rates before it, only about one third of the population pay it, leaving the other two thirds to live off their back.
The poll tax would have been a fair tax if full time housewives who had no independent income had been exempt. But it was not the housewives who rioted and created mayhem, but those who had never paid their way and had no intentions of doing so.
Mr Walter?s spin doctor?s soundbite that ?taxation could actually go down? is misleading. Note the could not would. Every taxpayer knows that since the LibDems took control of Devon County Council, council tax has gone up year on year, in six years with another 10% promised for next year.
It is not only council tax which keeps going up. It would seem to be a deliberate attack on law abiding middle income earners by the government, aided by the LibDems in order to bankrupt them into dependence on the government.
Give us the facts, Mr Walter. Stick to impartial journalism.
