YOUNG carers in the Okehampton area recently enjoyed a welcome day out thanks to Okehampton Rotary Club.
The club took a group of carers out on a cycling trip. The group included young carers primarily from the Okehampton area, joined by two to three carers from Tavistock. Ages ranged from 8 to 15, with transport and supervisory support provided by Young Devon.
Okehampton Rotary, represented on the day by John Moppett and Barry Thompson, organised the event with Adventure Okehampton, who provided the bikes and facilities at special pricing. It was one of a series of activities for the young carers planned over the course of the year.
It is intended to offer the youngsters the opportunity to get away from home responsibilities and enjoy some time away doing something different. The final event for the year will be a special 'Santa Cruise' from Exmouth in December.
