SOME fundraising challenges require real mettle to complete them — including last weekend's Dartmoor Drop from Meldon Viaduct. More than 40 adventurous fundraisers signed up to take a step off the viaduct into fresh air last Saturday and Sunday, down through the Okement River valley. They got to experience the feeling of freefalling as they abseiled 100 feet to raise money for CLIC Sargent. CLIC Sargent provides clinical, practical and emotional support for children and young people with cancer, and their families, from the point of diagnosis. All proceeds from the abseil will help CLIC Sargent provide vital services, including nurses and care professionals in Devon and Cornwall, grants to help families meet extra costs and free 'Home from Home' accommodation close to the main children's cancer centres. Organisers were hoping to raise around £10,000 through the event.
