TAVISTOCK Town Council is under an obligation to solve its accommodation problems without creating another financial burden for its already hard pressed council tax payers.

May I suggest the council look no further than Kilworthy Park. Following the impending move to the new library building the borough council will soon have a surplus of good quality office accommodation with adequate car parking. This would easily accommodate the town council and the registrar and the purpose-built council chamber would be available for both councils.

This low-cost solution would enable the town council to avoid the building costs and would provide West Devon with a welcome tenant.

Both councils are striving to provide best value solutions and services and how better to demonstrate their determination to achieve this objective? The credibility of both authorities would be enhanced and this positive example of their willingness to work together could only be of benefit to the community they purport to serve.

The council tax payers have a right to expect their council to exercise goodwill and understanding and to work together for the common good. I trust that the option outlined above will not be sacrificed on the altar of vanity and civic pride.

The town council should not ignore the advantages provided by another property for sale, namely, the Pimple. Outstanding views, adjacent to the golf course and with sufficient underground accommodation to ensure adequate security and of course secrecy and with a listed 'lookout' to spot enlightened people seeking to drive out negative attitudes.

Fortunately such a use for this important landmark would not be permitted. Alas, we can only dream!
