A GREAT turnout of entries is expected this weekend for this year?s South Zeal Carnival. Events begin this Saturday (October 28) at 2pm with the children?s parade and fancy dress ? the main carnival parade starts at 7pm. There are sure to be a great range of costumes for the children?s parade through the village. This year?s prince and princess Charlie and Emily Glanville will lead the parade. There are nine children?s classes running throughout the afternoon. From 2pm, the entries for the evening procession will begin to gather and finishing touches put onto floats or walking displays. Judging will get underway at 6pm, to decide who claims the class winners cups and challenge cups and shields. The carnival queen is Jessica Jeffrey, who will be crowned before the parade begins. The floats will set off from 7pm with Hatherleigh Silver Band accompanying the procession on its route to Sticklepath. Entries for all classes can be accepted right up until 4pm on carnival day, although earlier entry is appreciated to help organisers. This year?s chosen charity is the Honeylands Children?s Centre who give specialist assessment and support for children with special needs and their families. The carnival committee will also be supporting other charities in the local area.
