THREE charities in Hatherleigh will be the beneficiaries of a bumper share out from the brave efforts of those who took part in this year's annual Walrus Day Dip.
In the 23rd dip members plunged into the waters of the River Lew on New Year's Day while others joined in the river bank entertainment during an event that draws crowds, both local and from afar.
The Walruses raised a superb figure of more than £2,770 which will go towards Hatherleigh Primary School, the town's festival and the skate park.
The theme for the day was 'Strictly Not Dancing' and consisted of a variety of sequence dances, including line dancing, a Dutch-style dance, a waltz and a take-off, of the band Kiss.
Money was raised by a pig roast and auction, along with a raffle and a collection conducted by the Walrus's Riverbank ladies.
Further contributions were made through sponsorship to the Dippers.
Diane Bugden, the charity's secretary to the Walruses, said: 'The Walruses would like to thank everyone for their, ever generous contribution and support. The Walrus Day Dip is a very popular event and would not be possible or even successful without the support that they receive — thank you.'
