Tavistock Thistles U16s 1

Plymouth Trophyman U16s 1

HAVING won one game each this season in fixtures against each other, this game was always going to be a thriller, and so it proved to be.

Thistles were up for the battle from the first whistle and took the game to Trophyman, with Ben Langton, Isaac Cooper and Jay Lambert dominating the midfield battle, while Jonny Hake, Tom Parry and Sam Walker looked to unleash goal machine Josh Vernon. With 20 minutes played Thistles broke the deadlock when Cooper unleashed a shot from 20 yards to claim his first goal for Thistles.

Tavistock continued to push forward and defenders Cadan Lowther, Jack Quinn, Sam Newton and Louis Wilson looked comfortable as they kept the Plymouth strikers at bay, and ensured that Thistles led at the break.

But the league leaders came out after half time with a new found determination, putting Thistles under the cosh, with wave after wave of attacks. A fierce dipping drive produced an outstanding save from keeper Jack Haigh, while Newton, Wilson and Nick Cunningham all made crucial goalmouth clearances, but, with ten minutes left to play, the Thistles' defence was finally breached when a long hopeful punt into the box was not cleared and Trophyman's striker was on hand to blast the ball into the net from point blank range.

Lowther headed wide from a corner, and Thistles felt they had a strong claim for a penalty when Vernon was flattened in the box, but the penalty appeal was denied by the referee.

The match ended all square, with both teams earning a richly deserved point.

AFC Plympton U12s 1

Tavistock Thistles U12s 1

AFC PLYMPTON and Tavistock Thistles played a keenly contested match that had plenty of shots on goal and brought out the best in both goalkeepers.

Plympton had the greatest possession and managed to keep the ball in the Thistles half of the pitch for much of the match.  Plympton applied constant pressure on the Thistles' defence of Tom Calvert, Tom Keane, David Farmer and Jordan Seward and kept goalkeeper Isaac Jeffery busy.

However, it was the Thistles' counter attacks that looked the most threatening.  A good run by midfielder Yuri Costello led to Thistles taking the lead late in the first half.

Costello's shot on goal was blocked by the Plympton goalkeeper and the ball fell to striker Toby Scanlan who blasted the ball into the back on the net to give Thistles a 1–0 lead at half time.

Plympton were rewarded for their efforts with a goal five minutes in the second half. It was an exciting game with both goal- keepers producing excellent saves.  In the last minute of the game goalkeeper Jeffery saved what looked like a certain goal and earned Tavistock Thistles a hard earned draw.
