IN an entertaining and competitive game Lamerton eventually overcame second-placed St Stephens.
The home side went ahead early on with a goal of great quality when, from a Steve Wickett cross, his striking partner Kev Fedrick lofted the ball over the visitors? keeper with the outside of his right foot.
The rest of the first half was even with Phil Screech and Mark
Pollard always dangerous for St Stephens, but well shackled by Rich Downing and Tim Lyle playing against his former club.
Just before half-time Lamerton got their second goal through Steve Wickett following good work down the left by Grahame Cole and Panda Williams.
The visitors came back strongly in the second half when Shane Blanks hit a screamer from outside the box which went in off the inside of the post.
But Steve Wickett bagged his second by cleverly chipping the visitors? keeper.
The last 20 minutes saw Lamerton create several more chances. With Lee Wickett causing problems with his pace down the right, brother Steve, Jimmy Cole and Kev Swift all had efforts which went narrowly wide.
Overall the victory was buIlt around sound defensive play with skipper Simon Breyley outstanding.
