Devon & Exeter Intermediate 1
South Zeal Utd 2
Okehampton Seconds 1
WITH both teams near the top of the division this was always going to be close and as in the encounter between the two earlier in the season a margin of a single goal settled matters.
Okehampton started well and although not creating any clear cut chances had more of the play in the first 15 minutes. But Zeal's defence marshalled by Reg Wonnacott held firm and Zeal started to get more of the play.
Alan Brimacombe's pace started to trouble the Okehampton defence and it was no surprise when Zeal went ahead after 20 minutes. Harley Cann was given a good pass by Henry Bellairs inside the Okehampton penalty area, Cann beat two defenders and squared a great ball to Brimacombe who made no mistake from close in.
Zeal were now having much more of the play and went close several times before going two up when Brimacombe hit an unstoppable shot into the top right hand corner of the net from 20 yards.
It looked as if Zeal would go into the break with a two-goal advantage but with almost the last kick of the first half Okehampton pulled a goal back. Neil Pollard crashed home a stunning drive to give them a lifeline.
In the second half Okehampton exerted tremendous pressure in an effort to equalise and hit the Zeal woodwork twice.
But Zeal denied the visitors any real clear cut chances and could have extended their advantage when Brimacombe just missed getting his hat-trick after outstripping the Okehampton defence and shooting wide.
This Saturday Zeal are away to Motel Rangers kick-off 2.30pm.
Okehampton Argyle Seconds are home to Bohemians, kick-off 2.30pm.
